Preikestolen (the Pulpit Rock) is an unusual, and therefore famous, rock formation standing 604m above the Lysefjord. It is a large, flat slab of rock jutting out above the water, whereas the other cliff tops are rounded. Rumour has it that it used to be a Viking place of sacrifice, but these days 100,000 hikers climb to the top each year without coming to any harm!
