Tromsø #8

Two views from Håkøybotn looking towards Tromsø.
In the first there are no aurora to be seen, only a laser beacon and a passing aeroplane.
The second shows how the reflection from city lights can dim the Northern Lights.

Aurora #10

After hours of overcast skies and snow showers (and playing with traffic), the cloud cleared to reveal a green auroral band (and a faint meteorite in the top left corner behind the cloud, but you will need to enlarge the picture to see this).

Traffic

After many dark hours waiting for the Northern Lights, I took to playing with the traffic. Actually, the road was so busy I had to wait 15 minutes for a car to come by to make this picture.

The cosy cabin at Holemark Gård where I stayed for a week with the Northern Lights sometimes dancing right over my head.

Pavement Café #2

The lamps and blankets were out at this Stavanger pavement café, but with temperatures hovering at around minus 5 degrees, there were plenty of free tables.

La tuttane få henga!

By the shores of Mosvatnet, I came across a tree adorned with dummies.
What exactly is going on here? Is it a special place where Stavanger mothers bring their babes for some sort of rite of passage into toddlerhood?
If anyone can explain, I'd love to know!

Would you buy it?

Unfortunately named tinned food, but clearly innocent enough in the Norwegian language.

Supermarket #2

A shiny new "Helgømat" has just opened in our district. This particular Norwegian supermarket chain always seems to involve a small natural history museum in its presentation. It's a shame there are no polar bears in this branch.
