Liferafts

Wandering around Risavika port I came across these liferafts. Maybe they're just being aired, or maybe they're ready for a demonstration.

Sunset mirage

This kind of sunset mirage is caused by temperature inversion layers close to the surface of the sea. The real sun is setting while its inverted image appears to be rising. It's called a "Mock Mirage" and if you want to know more, follow this link to the Atmospheric Optics website http://www.atoptics.co.uk/atoptics/mmirsun.htm

Waterbirds

Are these birds a type of gull or a tern? Can anyone help to identify them?

They were photographed in Stavanger Harbour.

Matterhorn #2

From the top of Mont Fort, you can see the famous Matterhorn (big pointy mountain on the left). After I took this photo, I enlarged it and then wondered where the ski-trekkers are going? They can be seen very small on the right hand side of the top picture.

Wonderment

"The finest emotion of which we are capable is the mystic emotion. Herein lies the germ of all art and all true science. Anyone to whom this feeling is alien, who is no longer capable of wonderment and lives in a state of fear is a dead man. To know that what is impenetrable for us really exists and manifests itself as the highest wisdom and the most radiant beauty, whose gross forms alone are intelligible to our poor faculties - this knowledge, this feeling ... that is the core of the true religious sentiment. In this sense, and in this sense alone, I rank myself among profoundly religious men."

Albert Einstein
