This is how the northern lights look on calmer nights. Human eyes do not always see the vivid green colours of previous photos, although the camera nearly always does. In this image I have deliberately de-saturated the green hue to have the aurora most closely resemble what I actually saw. Some think it just looks like a cloud. But when you can see stars shining through it, you know it isn't .......
