Sola "ruinkirke" or ruined church was a 12th century romanesque church which was in use until as late as 1842. It then fell into ruin, and was further dismantled in 1940 by the occupying German forces who took stones from the walls. Following an architectural competition in 1989 (won by Louis Kloster), it was rebuilt using the original stones and with the addition of modern glass in parts of the walls, roof and doors.
It was re-consecrated in 1995.
